Valheim – 10 Really Useful Tips & Tricks – Hidden Treasure, Free Stone

Crypts

In Valheim, there are a number of different types of crypts, all of which are dark. Very dark. One top tip is to place a campfire on the crypt floor. You can then regenerate your health/stamina while also getting that “rested” buff.

Swamp

Valheim Useful Tips

The swamp is dark and full of dangers. Blobs, Skeletons, Draugr’s, Surtlings, and more. I recommend carrying your hoe with you (not that one) and fill in the water inside the swamp. This makes it easier for you to traverse it while also dealing with all those nasty leeches. Leeches do great in water, but not so much on the ground. If they’re on the ground, they will seek out water as opposed to picking on you.

Hidden Treasure

Not everyone knows this, but there’s hidden treasure in Valheim. There are a variety of rock formations that are hiding buried treasure. You’ll want to make sure you have a pickaxe on you so you can dig them out. You’ll find gems, gold, skeletal remains, and even a chest. If you see a rock formation, you should give it a few whacks with your pick to get that treasure.

Wolves

Eventually, you’ll find yourself in the mountains, and there are some scary and dangerous creatures you’ll have to deal with there. One of the most dangerous of them is the Wolf. When hunting at high altitudes, listen carefully for the wolf call. If you can hear the howl of the wolf, chances are you should be able to see him…and he’ll be able to see you too. They can be well-camouflaged, so stay still and scan the terrain carefully. Then whip out your bow and shoot it.

Easy Stone

Getting stone can be time-consuming. Luckily, there is a way to get stone easily – once you get up to the Iron Age. In the Iron Age, you can create a stone cutter. Drop down a workbench and a stone cutter near a castle, and then go around and destroy the support structure (bottom part) of the castle. Once you destroy the foundation, the rest will fall down and crumble into usable stone. Consider placing a portal down so you can quick transfer the stone back to your base.

Copper

Copper is not limited to the surface cap. You can mine deep under the cap, as there might be more copper veins deep down.

Gathering Wood And Inventory Space

Managing your inventory while out gathering resources, especially wood, can be a pain. Unlike other things in the game, the woodpile does not require a workbench. Consider creating and stacking wood into woodpiles where you chop it. Remember to mark down on your map the location, so you can come back to retrieve it anytime you want.

Ping Your Map

To ping your map and draw attention to a place, simply click your middle mouse button on the location on your map. This can be seen by other players while in multiplayer. Gather up the troops with one click of the mouse.

Stagbreaker

Once you discover core wood, you get the ability to make Stagbreaker. This sweet hammer requires 5 deer trophies, 20 core wood, and 2 leather scraps. The AoE damage on this hammer is awesome, especially when surrounded by mobs. The knock-back stuns enemiees briefly, buying you time to keep swinging.

Bad Starting Area / Map

If you start in a world that is less than ideal, don’t worry too much. You can transfer items you collected from one world to another. Gather the items you want to transfer to the other world on your person. Now log out of the game, create a new map, and log in. The items on your character will transfer to the new world. Do this multiple times if you have lots of items to bring over.
