Do you want to play as a PURE archer? That’s right, no melee weapons, just bows and arrows and such! In this guide, you’re going to learn how to shoot first, ask questions later. Starting out, you have one of two options: select a Samurai or select a Bandit. This guide focuses on the Bandit option, but both are viable. (Note: Samurai begins the game with a longbow while Bandits use the short bow.)

We recommend grabbing the Golden Seed as this gets you an extra flask early on. Can’t go wrong with that!

The next thing you will want to consider is the type and amount of arrows you’re going to need. Arrows are not infinite in this game, so you’ll need to make them, craft them, and farm them. Also, you’ll want to pick up the recipe book from the Merchant and the crafting kit for basic arrows and bone arrows. Shoot little animals, get some runes, and farm for the first few hours.

All Arrows Are Not Created Equal

Starting out, the arrows the Vendor sells are better than the ones you can get yourself. One of the best things about playing as an Archer is you can get all different types of arrows. There is literally an arrow for every situation. Running out of arrows is rough, though. Archers are not great at melee!

You will also want to focus on getting better arrows early on, as opposed to leveling up strength or dexterity. Focus on getting your vigor up to 15-20, as you are gonna get hit and you don’t want to get one-shotted. Make vigor priority #1 and then when you get that up, you can start to look at Dexterity (and in that order).

You should also note that this build is VERY stamina heavy. You’ll be jumping and rolling and shooting non-stop, so keep that at the back of your mind. That said, jacking up endurance early on is not recommended at first as it doesn’t give you a good bang for the buck.

Upgrade Your Bow

You want to upgrade your bow as quickly as possible, especially to +3. Head up the hill at Storm Hill and pop a bunch of Trolls to get this rolling. Look for a storm object up there that you can smash.
