Pretty much anyone who has ever played a video game knows that Valve hates the number three just as much as anyone has hated anything in the history of the universe. As such, the likelihood that we’ll ever see an official release of Portal 3 is slim, despite whatever your neighbor insists.
So, what do fans who want more from the series do? Wait for decades in the hopes that their prayers will be answered? Apparently not, as they’ve answered their own prayers and put in the wrench time themselves. This is where Portal Reloaded comes in.
Portal Reloaded is a continuation of the second game, created through a labor of love by some very dedicated community members. The mod is applied to your existing copy of Portal 2 and adds 25 entirely new levels to the game with a myriad of puzzles and brain-melting challenges in each. As of right now, the mod is a single-player only experience. So, if you loved playing the second game with a friend and enjoyed that feature, well…tough luck.
Another thing that will excite the lovers of the original Portal games is the addition of even more content in the form of an entirely new portal. The green one! What does the green one do, you ask? Why, time travel, of course! The player can use that portal to travel between different time periods on the same level, spread 20 years apart, adding a whole new element to the puzzle-solving challenges that the regular game presents.
How is the mod going? How is it being received? Well. Extremely well. At the time of this writing, the ratio for positive to negative reviews on Steam is sitting at 709 who loved the mod, and 18 who didn’t. No matter how bad you are at math, that’s a win. And that kind of win makes the future for this series, through additional content in the form of fan-made projects, very exciting. So, be sure to check the mod out and let us know what you think!
