Phasmophobia – Guide To All Ghosts

Phasmophobia is all the rage at the moment and you’re probably looking to dive into the ghost hunting action yourself. While you don’t partake in the actual busting of disembodied spirits, your job still requires encountering and identifying them to make the lives of the “clean-up” crew easier.

There are twelve ghost types in total in Phasmophobia and in order to identify them, you need to use your equipment to collect three pieces of evidence. What can also help narrow things down is recognizing their various temperaments and weaknesses.

Ultimately, all of these ghosts can end up killing you but some start off nicer than others. In this Phasmophobia ghost guide, we’ve got all the necessary details on each ghost type, ranked from easiest to hardest.

Spirit

You’ll encounter spirits quite often when playing Phasmophobia and they’re usually very docile at first. Piss them off enough, though, and they can end up killing you. You can block them from attacking for long stretches of time with smudge sticks, their main weakness.

Evidence you need:

  • Fingerprints
  • Spirit box
  • Ghost writing

Shade

This is the ghost you don’t want catching you on your own. It doesn’t attack when there are several of you and your crew around. While strength in numbers is its weakness, its “shy” state makes it harder to find and identify.

Evidence you need:

  • Ghost orbs
  • Ghost writing
  • EMF Level 5

Phantom

Don’t underestimate this ghost’s slow movement speed. Like the Wraith, it can travel through walls. It’ll also drop your sanity significantly if you stare at it directly. Keep a camera handy because taking a picture of it will cause it to disappear for a bit.

Evidence you need:

  • EMF Level 5
  • Cold temperatures
  • Ghost orbs

Poltergeist

Made famous from the movie with the same name, this ghost type will give you the creeps as it toys around with objects it finds in its vicinity. It’s less active and aggressive in empty rooms, though, so you may want to steer clear from the ghost room once you’ve ID’d a Poltergeist.

Evidence you need:

  • Fingerprints
  • Spirit box
  • Ghost orbs

Jinn

It may not grant wishes but a Jinn will leave you be as long as you don’t invade its space. It’s one of the fastest ghosts in Phasmophobia but you can lower its speed by switching off the fuse box.

Evidence you need:

  • Ghost orbs
  • Spirit box
  • EMF Level 5

Mare

Mares are especially dangerous in the dark as this heightens their attack frequency. Staying in well-lit rooms is advisable but be warned that a Mare can, and will, turn the lights off. So be on your guard.

Evidence you need:

  • Ghost orbs
  • Cold temperatures
  • Spirit box

Banshee

These dangerous ghostly hunters target one player at a time and can be quite aggressive without the right tools. Always have a crucifix on your person as it affects Banshees at longer ranges.

Evidence you need:

  • Fingerprints
  • EMF Level 5
  • Cold temperatures

Wraith

Wraiths can be quite dangerous as they’re one of the ghost types that can travel through walls. This ghost type also has the ability to escape and it’s quite relentless when it’s on the prowl. Carry salt on you at all times as it will keep Wraiths at bay.

Evidence you need:

  • Fingerprints
  • Spirit box
  • Cold temperatures

Revenant

Revenants are slow-moving when they’re not hunting but once they’re on the prowl, they’re incredibly quick. When you know a Revenant is on the prowl, you’ll want to high-tail it to the truck.

Evidence you need:

  • Fingerprints
  • EMF Level 5
  • Ghost writing

Yurei

Yurei’s are dangerous for your state of mind as encountering one will drop your sanity significantly more than other types. Use Smudge sticks to keep them paralyzed for long periods of time.

Evidence you need:

  • Ghost writing
  • Ghost orbs
  • Cold Temperatures

Oni

Another dangerous hunter that becomes active within the first few minutes from mission start. It patrols around and within its ghost room most of the time. This is one you’ll want to hide from when it’s on the prowl.

Evidence you need:

  • Ghost writing
  • Spirit box
  • EMF Level 5

Demon

Crucifixes should always be at the ready when encountering a Demon. This is the most aggressive ghost type in Phasmophobia. Beyond keeping it at bay with a crucifix, this ghost has no other weakness. You can, however, use an Ouija board to communicate with it without dropping your sanity much.

Evidence you need:

  • Spirit box
  • Ghost writing
  • Cold Temperatures
