Have you ever wondered why robots attack you in the middle of a volcanic eruption? No? Not once? Well, in Volcanoids you’re going to need to think about these things.
Volcanoids is a great game to play alone or with a friend. It’s a first-person, Steampunk-themed building and survival game (say that three times really fast) that has you try to figure out why a volcano is erupting. You will also be attacked, a lot, by a plethora of robots.
You are armed with a drill ship and a lot of customizations. The game has progressed incredibly over the last year, and it’s really fun. You get a mobile base, the aforementioned drill ship, where you can dig underground to find resources. The deeper you dig, the harder the enemies get.
While you’re upgrading your ship, the robots are doing the same. Robots can also try to raid your drill ship, and sometimes they come in massive numbers, so be ready.
Volcano
The volcano tends to erupt every 20 or so minutes, and you’ll need to go underground during an eruption. Once you come back to the surface, you’ll notice that the ground is really messed up. You’ll also see the island grow back to a lushly scenic view.
Upgrading your ship is a big part of the game. f you want to upgrade your stuff, go raid the enemies and that will help you out. The recent update, the combat update, is awesome. There appear to be 3 or 4 levels at the moment and they will be adding more soon.
Lastly, I should note that the developers have been keeping their promises and adhering to their roadmap. The game is just an outright blast. You really owe it to yourself to give it a try!
