Tails of Iron – Review

Are you ready to save your rat kingdom from a frog infestation? Excellent! Tails of Iron is a 2-D sidescroller game with a good storyline and nice fight mechanics. You play as a rat king who must save his kingdom from frogs. You will fight your way through these cannibal frogs and push the pond scum back from whence they came. If you’re looking for a side quest game then this is it.

The game is multi-platform, so you can find it on any platform you like playing on. Tails of Iron will be well worth it if only for that, but it’s also a budget-friendly game too. For only $24.99 this game will take you hours to play. So, let’s start this rat’s tale.

Playthrough

The game has no real set difficulty which, in my opinion, makes it interesting. It makes you use all the mechanics to defeat your frog enemies. You will constantly find yourself starting over and over until you get the right sequence to defeating your enemy. These aren’t your regular baddies which you can easily mow down; each enemy has to be approached differently.

The fights are all about timing and parrying attacks at the right moment. It leaves little space for you to spam your attacks. That just won’t happen. The enemies are merciless in countering those attacks and even parrying them back themselves. The replay value is high in this game. As you fight your way through, you will find more than just frogs to fight. And that adds to the difficulty forcing you to change your style and adapt.

Art and Storyline

The artwork in Tails of Iron is pleasant. The game has a subtle way of showing scenery both adorable and grotesque. You have this delightful character fighting enemies twice their size and going through a lot to save their rat kingdom. From the royal fort to the bug-infested sewers, the hero’s journey will take them all across the land. The narration in Tails of Iron feels somewhat cinematic at times and can be quite soothing. The storyline is well done and has a nice follow-through. The regular commentary alone ensures that it’s a game you won’t get easily bored of.

Conclusion

Who knew a rat’s tale like this would be such a good game? Tails of Iron is an engaging game and I would recommend it to anyone who’s trying to find a new sidescroller. You’ll find yourself invested in the storyline and immersed in the combat. So, get ready to kick some frog butt in Tails of Iron.
