Control Ultimate Edition – PS5 is 42% Smaller Than Xbox X due to Compression Tech!

When comparing developer Remedy Entertainment’s Control – Ultimate Edition on the Playstation 5 vs. Xbox Series X, some interesting results came out. Specifically, the PS5 with its “Kraken” compression technology, has reduced the size of the game by 42% when compared to the Xbox Series X version.

That said, it should be noted that this information was originally posted on Reddit, so take it with a grain (or two) of salt. I do have some images that show the discrepancy however, so take a look at them and decide for yourself.

Smaller is better

Image 2 – Xbox Series X file size of 42.5 GB.

This is not meant to start a war between PS5 and Xbox Series X owners as both are great consoles and do a lot of things well. This does, however, indicate that the smaller hard drives found in PS5s may not be as much of a factor as many had worried.

Granted, this is only for a single game, but if this type of discrepancy holds true across multiple titles, then this bodes well for the PS5. It’s also a lot less of a negative if/when you use external storage as well.
