The Medium – Collectibles Guide

In this guide, Maka takes you through the entire game and shows you pretty much everything you can collect so you an snag them achievements. It should be noted that this game doesn’t have any chapter select – so you can’t go back and “mop up”.

All of this has to be done in one play-through, so if you miss one you should either load your previous save or, alternatively, play through it again – from the start. Ouch.

Also, the game does have an auto save feature, however you will want to keep track of what you’ve done as sometimes you can miss something when re-loading.

Achievements & Timestamps

Famished Feline Achievement – 0:27 – right at the beginning, you can snag a very missable achievement called “famished feline”. Basically, there’s a hungry cat you have to feed in the kitchen. Nice and easy.​

Photo 1: Jack – 0:54​ – Head into the red photo room connected to the kitchen. Develop the photo of Jack.

Postcard: Niwa Says Hello – 1:12 – The first collectible – once you jump off your motorcycle, head into the booth by the gate, and find the postcard inside.​

Eerie Drawing: Someone New – 1:33 – ​The split dimension / dual screen in introduced. You’ll want to go up the ledge and to the right to find an eerie drawing.

Echo 1 – 2:00 – Hit up the big parking lot and if you run forward – you will find a big payphone (is this in 1980)? ​Use “LB” – an insight mechanic, and you can scan the object for a crack.

Postcard: Honest Work – 2:38 – Before going into the hotel, run down the left side of the parking lot and you’ll notice a car. There is a screwdriver inside – and you will also see an obvious postcard. ​

Echo 2 – 3:12 – You will find the second echo in the hotel. You should see a shoe on the ground next to a briefcase. Inspect for the tear.

Postcard: Promotion – 3:35 – In the hotel lobby, go past the check in desk – you’ll see a small table and you’ll find the promotion post card. ​

Echo 3 – 3:59 – On the second floor you will find a strange looking key – you can use it to open a door, and then turn to the characters. Go through the door on the left. Near the end of the hallway, turn right, you’ll see a phone, and get your third echo.​

Memory Shard 1 – 4:40 – Drop down the large hole in the ground as per the video, and you will find your first memory shard. Note, there are only 10 memory shards in the game. Look on top of the AC unit, interact with it, and then play it / unlock it.​

Echo 4 – 5:30 – Walk forward, you’ll find a small washroom connected to the hallway. In the sink, there are two collectibles – a bottle you need to inspect.

Mentor’s Diary: An Apology – 5:30 – ​While at the sink – you should find a “mentor’s diary” as well – this one is called an apology.

Memory Shard 2 – 6:12 – Use the razor blade to cut into the room and there you can find the sunflower – the main objective. Interact with the memory shard near the back of the room. ​

Echo 5 – 6:43 – From this location, make sure you head into the bathroom – and inspect where the mirror is supposed to be – and get the fifth echo.​

Eerie Drawing: Lonely – 7:03 – ​Now you can try out your spirit shield to pass through some moths – on the second time you do it (near end of hall) – you can do an out of body experience to snag another eerie drawing. Nice and simple.

Troubled Man’s Notes: A Peaceful Place – 7:30 – Head into the office – but before going through the door, there are two collectibles – A Peaceful Place (in the crate). ​

Eerie Drawing: Old Man – 7:30 – In the spirit world, you can find another eerie drawing collectible in the corner of the room. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: To-Do List – 8:05 – Head through the door and interact with the desk. ​Snag the to do list. Use the key on the clock to solve the clock puzzle.

Troubled Man’s Note: Getting Stronger – 8:35 – Find the getting stronger note on the floor in the middle of the room.​

Photo 2: From Hiding – 8:35 – This photo can be developed in the corner of the room. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: Fever Dreams – 9:02 – follow the flickering light – on the ledge, you will find another note (Fever Dreams). ​

Echo 6 – 9:24 – In the large pool room, in the far corner you’ll find echo number 6 on the barricade. ​

Echo 7 – 9:53 – After the barricade, jump up and you’ll find a second barricade for another echo.​

Echo 8 – 10:13 – Keep going past the pool, you’ll end up in a showery room – crouch through the hole in the wall – find echo #8 (a pile of clothing). ​

Postcard: Someday – 10:36 – ​In the same room as the clothing – look for the postcard called someday.

Troubled Man’s Note: Good Old Frank – 10:51 – You should end up in a tiled staircase hallway – come out of it, turn to the characters right side – in the corner of the floor you’ll find the note.​

Echo 9 – 11:11 – This is just after crossing through the mirror. Head through the door, turn to the left, and near the end of the walkway is echo #9 – A children’s toy top.

Echo 10 – 11:39 – ​You will eventually drop down a ledge, and be near the pool (again). New stuff here – including an echo in the middle of the pool (stuffed toy animal).

Echo 11 – 12:02 – From this echo – head back up the ledge from the pool – these echos have to be done in a certain order – so it can seem like you are running in circles. ​

Echo 12 – 12:32 – Now head back down into the pool – and then back into that room with the hole in the wall. Push the cart, and behind that cart there is a new echo. Snag it.​

Other: Torn Illustration – 13:11 – ​Climb through the hole in the wall (again!) and now interact with the locker – there’s a white cat figurine. You’ll also find a torn illustration.

Echo 13 – 14:11 – Cross through the hall, enter the examination room – interact with the phone on the wall for another echo.​

Eerie Drawing: Bad Nursie – 14:41 – After the phone – interact with the mirror – cross over into the spirit world. Walk towards the screen to find another eerie drawing.​

Eerie Drawing: Dark – 14:59​ (Split Path: Male Soul) Release the souls – select from the left or right (male or female). If you go to the left, you’ll find an eerie drawing on the floor called “dark”.

Echo 14 – 15:23​ (Split Path: Male Soul) – If you continue (as male) you will go through a mirror – you’ll end up in a conference room. Continue to rub yourself against the left wall and you’ll find another phone and some more insight.

Echo 15 – 15:49​ (Split Path: Male Soul) – Continue through the hallway into the other office – the puzzle is there – the person’s name is Nicholas. Hit up the ashtray at the back and get the echo.

Postcard: A Scenic View – 16:25​ (Split Path: Female Soul) – Once you release the male, do the female split path (right). Head through the mirror, and pick up the keys in the examination room. It will unlock the door – head through to the right side – a postcard is in the corner of the room (a scenic view).

Echo 16 – 17:15​ (Split Path: Female Soul) – Now sneak pack the phantom again, and squeeze through the cupboards. Find the echo on the table by inspecting the postcard (ballerina’s room).

Echo 17, 18, 19, 20 – 17:45​ (Split Path: Female Soul) – you’ll find some paper on the ground – put it into the book, and get some phone numbers (4). Do them all before moving on.

Other: A Quiet Girl – 18:40 – Things get weird here – Once you have freed both souls – You’ll go through a mirror – ​on the table there is a collectible called a quiet girl.

Echo 21 – 18:40 – ​Head through the hole in the wall – and find a wheelchair. Use your insight on it for echo #21.

Other: Empty Eyes – 18:40 – Next to the wheelchair – interact with the desk – you’ll find another collectible (the last one) – Empty eyes. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: Dust and Death – 19:33 – This is the trickiest collectible of the game. ​Use your bolt cutters, head back into the hotel lobby – near the end, there is a gate with a chain around it. Cut through it – go inside. This is very easy to miss! You only get one crack at this. The note is at the end of the hallway.

Echo 22 – 20:39 – ​on the left side, there is a photo of some horses on the bench. Inspect it.

Mentor’s Diary: Throwing Away Greatness – 20:39 – Put down the picture, and snag the mentor’s diary.

Mentor’s Diary: A Very Special Boy – 21:07 – If you back up and stay along the wall, you will end up at a couch – find the mentor’s diary a very special boy.​

Memory Shard 3 – 21:23 – Inside the day room, in the middle – you’ll see an “IV”. Interact with it, align the point of recollection.​

Mentor’s Diary: A Well of Inspiration – 21:54 – From the mid of the room – head over to the right side of the room – on a small chair near some toys – find the mentor’s diary.​

Mentor’s Diary: A Method to Madness – 22:09 – From the previous collectible, inside the day room – go through the door you haven’t been through yet. You’ll end up in the glow room – there is a mentor’s diary there. ​

Memory Shard 4- 22:28 – Now align the branches, get access to the balcony – go outside, get into the piano teachers room, and interact with the piano.​

Echo 23 – 23:07 – From the piano room, and after getting the memory shard – get the keys, go back into the dayroom, now both character can enter into the side room (teacher’s office).

Memory Shard 5 – 23:07 ​3 collectibles are there to grab, first one is on the pencil case.​ Check out the glasses, and line up the points to get the memory shard.

Mentor’s Diary: Growing Apart – 23:07 – see above (it is inside the teachers room).

Mentor’s Diary: A New Hope – 24:18 – ​With the piano puzzle solved – use your spirit shield to gain access to a new room – in front of the character in the corner of the room is a mentor’s diary (a new hope). This is the final mentor’s diary.

Memory Shard 6 – 24:46​ – There are 3 memory shards in this room – the first one (#6) is for interacting with the canvas.

Memory Shard 7 – 25:09​ – The second one is near the middle of the room, you’ll see a doll. Inspect it. Make sure to align the points of recollection.

Memory Shard 8 – 25:31 – ​The last memory shard in the room is on the opposite side of the first collectible it is a ribbon on the table.

Postcard: Won’t Stop – 25:59 – Once you regain control of Maryanne – you will go down some stairs, turn to the left, and then to the left again (down the intersection). ​There is a bench with a postcard on it. Check it out.

Echo 24 – 25:59 – Next to the postcard is an echo on another payphone. Interact with it. ​

Postcard: Poor Thing – 26:39 – ​After a short period – come down the stairs, and see a telescope in front of you. And an info path. Next to the telescope is a postcard.

Postcard: Harder and Harder – 26:57 – Follow the path, there is a right and the left – take the left path, as it has a collectible. Harder and harder – it is on the bench.​

Postcard: Whispers in the Dark – 27:24 – Get ready to follow the dog. Follow him, but instead, as soon as you can – do not go up the hill, go to the right side path. Look through some bushes (it is easy to miss!) – check out the postcard.​

Postcard: A New Companion – 27:46 – ​You will end up at a campsite. DO NOT INTERACT WITH THE TENT. Walk down the near the bench, find the postcard instead. Do this before the tent stuff.

Photo 3: Staff Photo – 28:02 – Near the tent – snag it. ​

Postcard: Regrets – 28:02 – Also available at the tent – final postcard of the game.​

Echo 25 – 28:32 – Interact with sadness on the swing set – before going into the barn, interact with a rock on the ground – inspect it.​

Echo 26 – 28:32 – You will also find a bike tire near the rock – interact with it. ​

Echo 27 – 29:10 – Now head into the barn, there is lots to grab. ​Interact with the workshop​ bench – there is a wooden horse.

Troubled Man’s Note: Hell’s Angel – 29:10 – Don’t leave the bench – Interact with the troubled mans notes.

Echo 28 – 29:45 – Now you can leave the bench, and go to the garage. Find the tape recorder, it is an echo. It also unlocks an achievement.​

Echo 29 – 30:09 – Next to the recorder is a bench – inspect the luggage. Also get the collectible on the desk.​

Troubled Man’s Note: Something Broken – 30:09 – This one is tricky, under the luggage note – find the troubled man’s note. ​

Memory Shard 9 – 30:35 – ​Head towards the house, aka the red house – the spray can is right outside the main door.

Memory Shard 10 – 30:58 – This is a gas can located on the left side of the house. ​Unlock that achievement.

Troubled Man’s Note: Demons – 31:28 – ​Now you will play a long section as Thomas, and the come back as Maryanne. Enter the house, it can be found in the corner closet of the room.

Troubled Man’s Note: The Missing Piece – 31:50 – Put the masks on the two kids up stairs, you will go through the mirror, and the mirror will smash. Once in the basement – it is littered with collectibles.​

Troubled Man’s Note: Found A Way – 32:27 – Head to the character’s right hand side – in the corner, find the note. ​Near that collectible is a small side room (wine cellar)? On the box is the note.

Echo 30 – 32:39 – Find a bunch of echos – the first is near the middle of the room – it’s a shoe. On a broken chair, inspect it.

Echo 31 – 32:39 – ​The next echo is in the same room – on the other side – it is on a small stuffed teddy bear.

Echo 32 – 32:39 – There should be a syringe on the wall – you have to do this one at a weird angle, but it is the final echo. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: A Different Kind of Sickness – 33:37 – In the dark corner of this same room – you’ll find the next troubled mans note. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: Separation – 33:48 – Now, the code is 1966, you will have a chase sequence – walk forward and find the note. ​Head towards the pump control room – and on the desk is another note.

Troubled Man’s Note: A Relic of the Past – 34:08 – ​You will now need to complete the water pump puzzle. Find the connecting door. Down the staircase ​there is the note. Restore all the power to the bunker – this should open all the doors.

Troubled Man’s Note: A Thin Line – 34:29 – Find the door that connects them (after solving the water puzzle) and end up inside a bunker. Go down the staircase, an open green door – in the back corner is a troubled note.

Troubled Man’s Note: Just Me and Her – 34:52 – Restore all the power, finding the fuse – and green zone.​ Head across the hall and find another troubled mans note.

Troubled Man’s Note: Keeping Distance – 34:52 – From the kitchen, head back into the hallway, go down the hall – inside the office there are two collectible notes. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: Business Card – 34:52 – Another note can be collected from the same room – located on the desk. ​

Troubled Man’s Note: Alone – 34:52 – Go down the hall, into the last room, and find another note on the desk. You can now finish the game and get the 1,000 gamers score!​
