Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most beloved, and popular, games of all time. It is also still one the most played, and most popular games, in 2021 – 8 years after its release. Amazing. That said, it is getting a bit long in the tooth, and a new GTA is on the minds of a lot of gamers, including this one. Is there one coming soon? I think so, and here’s why.
System And Method For Virtual Navigation In A Gaming Environment
Take-two Interactive Software, Rockstar’s parent company, recently filed (October 2020) a patent for a new method of virtual navigation in a gaming environment. In their words, it is “a system and method for managing and pathfinding using a coarse graph of low-level nodes representing the virtual world of a gaming environment”.
The most intriguing part of the patent is that it appears they have devised a new system that manages NPC Navigation, with a focus on vehicle road routes and navigation.
